Parents reserve right to file compensation claim

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

The parents of a San Diego teenager who was killed by a paroled sex offender have now filed paperwork allowing them to preserve their right to seek financial compensation for her death.

Sara Muller Fraunces, a spokeswoman for Brent and Kelly King said in a statement that the Kings had not made a final decision about whether they intended to seek compensation for the death of their daughter, Chelsea, but they decided to file the paperwork in order to preserve their right to do so in advance of a six-month claims deadline.

Convicted sex offender John Albert Gardner III is serving a life sentence for killing 17-year-old Chelsea and 14-year-old Amber Dubois. The California Assembly has scheduled a final vote on a bill that’s become known as ‘Chelsea’s Law’, which would see some convicted child molesters locked up for life.
